The Lancashire Heeler is the smallest English herding dog and belongs in the Pastoral group. Very little is known about his early history but he probably developed by crosses between the Welsh Corgi and the Manchester Terrier. As a breed Lancashire Heelers learn very quickly but owners are often foiled by a rather stubborn nature and a very inventive mind. Normally outgoing he will like people but he may show some signs of nervousness, he may also be sharp with other dogs. Country life or town life with plenty of exercise would be equally suitable as he does like a good run. A dog proof garden is a must as the Lancashire Heeler is a good escapologist.
Lancashire Heelers do have a problem with eye disease such as Collie Eye Anomaly and lens luxation. Therefore it is extremely important that when buying one you only buy from stock that have had their eyes tested.
