The Sealyham Terrier was developed in the nineteenth century in Wales. In 1850 Captain J. Edwards began crossing various terriers, including the Fox Terrier, the West Highland White Terrier, the Dandie Dinmont Terrier and possibly the Welsh Cardigan Corgi. The resulting Sealyham Terrier was used to hunt otters and polecats.
The Sealyham Terrier is active and lively, he makes a cheerful and intelligent companion. He is affectionate and gentle with his family but will bark a loud warning if a stranger comes near. He does require professional grooming as well as regular brushing and combing by his owner.
