One of the oldest of the Scottish breeds the Skye Terrier is wary of strangers, but loyal and devoted to his friends. Probably the most famous Skye Terrier was Greyfriars Bobby whose loyalty is typical of the breed. In 1858 when Bobbys master died took vigil at his master’s grave in Greyfriars churchEdinburgh.Bobby maintained this vigil until he too died at 14.
The Skye Terrier is an excellent guard dog and protective of his family and friends. He has a heavy coat and does require careful brushing and combing to keep it in good condition. The Skye Terrier is a stubborn and intelligent dog which means that he needs to know the house rules and that he has to abide by them; so it is important that his owner understands them as well.
