The Smooth Collie is an active intelligent dog and makes an excellent family pet. He is medium sized and short coated with a kind reliable nature. The Rough Collie and the Smooth Collie are the same breed the only difference being the coat; as the Smooth Collie has a short coat grooming is much easier. He will still shed coat but when this happens a bath to loosen the remaining hair and a good brush through will do the job. There are three colours recognized by the Kennel Club they are, sable and white, tricolour or blue merle. The sable colour can be any shade of brown from a rich gold to a shade of mahogany. The tricolour is predominantly black, white with some tan markings (on muzzle, eyebrows and legs). Smooth Collies do like to have company whether it is the family or another dog.
